HISTORY
OF THE PATTERSON BANK
On April 15, 1907, an agreement was made to buy the land upon which
to build a bank in Patterson, Georgia. Within the next few weeks,
the 25 by 55 foot brick building was completed!
On June 19, 1907 The Patterson Bank was chartered with the following
officers and directors: Henry Hyers, President; D.J. Walker, Vice
President; S.P. Sweat, C.T. Purdom and Dr. John H. O’Quinn of
Patterson, Jasper J. Winn of Bristol, and George Hyers of Coffee,
Directors, with Dr. O’Quinn serving as Chairman. The Cashier was
J.M.R. Griffis.
The Bank was opened with capitol stock of $15,000.00. For the next
63 years it served as a local depository for the business people of
the town and had little or no growth. In 1970, R. D. Thomas, Jr.
became President of the Bank and promptly hired a professionally
trained Banker as the Cashier, the first such employee of the Bank.
It was soon after this that the Bank began to grow and prosper.
In 1975 the Bank moved into a new building on Highway 82, now
Highway 84, and doubled in size in the next 12 months. The Bank
still conducts business there today. An additional office was
built near Waycross on Highway 84 and annexed into the City of
Waycross in 1986. This office opened for business on August 1, 1986
and is called the Bonneyman Office.
Early in the 1990’s a vision to expand into Wayne County and Jesup,
Georgia became a dream for The Patterson Bank and its Board of
Directors. In May 1998 The Patterson Bank opened in its present
location on Hwy. 84 in Jesup!
On November 15, 2006 the temporary office of the downtown Waycross
Office opened its doors. This office is located next to the long
awaited newest and largest office of The Patterson Bank. In March of
2008 this new office is projected to be in full operation.
Since 1970 we’ve grown from 1 million in total assets to 150 million. We look forward to continuing expanding our banking
services and our service area. We have been serving our communities
for generations and will continue to grow throughout Southeast
Georgia in the years to come!
